The parts of this program

A paid summer
internship

You'll be first in line for a summer internship at one of our partner organizations. Once you get hired, you'll spend 75% of your time there.
Work with organizations like:

A local social purpose project + a national research project

In the 25% of the time that you're not working as an intern, you'll work on projects with Propel Impact as an Innovator-in-Residence. For the first half of the summer, you'll be supporting an early-stage impact venture, social enterprise, or nonprofit to solve a crucial organizational challenge. For the second half of the summer, you'll collaborate with the other Innovators-in-Residence on a national research project.
You’ll be doing projects like:
Takachar
Yukonstruct
Food Stash Foundation

A weekly speaker series

You’ll get to engage with leaders in the sector through our weekly speaker series, hosted in partnership with Good & Well.

A networking program

Connect with leaders in the social impact space through 1:1 coffee chats (that we'll set up) and networking events!

Hear from people
who've done it

“Propel Impact opened my eyes to new areas of possibility and showed me exactly how I can tangibly put my acquired skills to use in the Canadian social finance ecosystem. Had I been able to design my perfect internship, it would have looked just like this.”
- Lena Courcol (Financial Analyst, New Market Funds; 2019 Analyst @ Esplanade Québec)
“I thoroughly enjoyed the Propel Impact Residency Program - in addition to gaining invaluable skills required in the social innovation/social finance sector, I connected with like-minded peers who support each other as we begin our careers."
- Valerie Chiu (2021 Analyst @ Kaleidoscope Social Impact)
“The Propel Impact Residency has been an incredibly valuable experience for me. It gave me the opportunity to do meaningful work on issues that I deeply care about. I'm grateful to have met so many inspiring and passionate people throughout the summer. I feel a true sense of belonging in this supportive, wonderful community.”
- Ethan Shi (2022 Analyst @ Fair Finance Fund)

FAQ

Can I apply if I haven’t completed one of Propel Impact’s programs?
Current Propel Impact Fellows will be first in line for the Summer Residency. However, we may, and often do, open a select number of roles to external candidates who have not participated in the Fellowship. If you’d like to be notified if and when we recruit externally, please sign up here.
How does the application process work, given that there are so many different organizations to choose from?
Applicants will complete an online form and respond to a series of written questions for each organization that they are interested in working with. There are two standard questions across all organizations, with the additional questions chosen by each respective organization depending on the skill set and qualities that they seek in a candidate. There will be at least one interview round for candidates who are shortlisted, with select organizations requiring additional interviews to assess quantitative skills and financial acumen.
When can I apply?
Our partner organizations will recruit in different stages, starting in late Fall until the Spring. Current program participants and alumni will be notified as soon as the first wave of recruitment begins. Instructions can be found on each job description.
Will I be required to relocate?
The majority of our partner organizations have either fully remote or hybrid working arrangements. Be sure to check each job description individually for details.
