Focus Area: Inclusive employment & economic participation (SDG 8.5, SDG 10.2)
Deal size: $50,000
Year: 2021
In 2021, East Van Roasters faced a critical transition when its original owner decided to divest from the social enterprise. Without new capital and organizational support, the business risked closing its doors.

The Vancouver Propel Impact Fellowship team provided a $50,000 patient capital loan, while also helping secure an additional $150,000 in co-investment to support EVR's transition to an independent social enterprise. Beyond financing, the Propel Impact team supported the organization through a pro-bono consulting engagement to help refine its sales strategy, identify new supplier relationships, and strengthen its storytelling and outreach.
In 2023, the organization was acquired by Atira Women’s Society, ensuring the long-term continuation of the program and opening the door for future expansion.
Propel Impact’s loan was repaid in full, with the team choosing to waive interest in order to support the sustainability of the enterprise and its mission.
